A jury convicted Mateo Reymundo Rodriguez, 17, for the death of Megan Schaefer, 33, in April 2022

A jury has convicted an Evansville teen of murder and other charges after a woman was killed at a local gas station. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Jurors found Mateo Reymundo Rodriguez guilty of felony murder, involuntary manslaughter, robbery, and other charges Thursday afternoon.

The 17-year-old Rodriguez was convicted of running over 33-year-old Megan Schaefer while stealing a car at the Conoco gas station at Weinbach and Franklin in April of last year.

Schaefer died of her injuries.

The Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office says it’s prepared to seek a sentence that shows “no mercy” because Rodriguez’ statements since the crime have shown what Prosecutor Diana Moers (mers) calls “a complete lack of remorse.”

Rodriguez’ sentencing is set for May 26th in Vanderburgh Circuit Court.
