Oscar Contreras Zamilpa was convicted of multiple charges

A jury has convicted an Evansville man of raping a resident in an assisted living facility. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office says Oscar Contreras Zamilpa was found guilty on Friday.

The case stemmed from an anonymous tip about a sexual assault at an assisted living facility in February 2022.

Police say they spoke with the victim who stated she had been raped by a man who was later identified as Zamilpa.

Officials say the victim told police she was helping him move furniture in the facility where they both lived when he sexually assaulted her.

Deputy prosecutors presented DNA evidence and other medical evidence and the jury convicted Zamilpa of rape, criminal confinement, and three counts of sexual battery.

His sentencing was set for May 12th.
