Man Killed by Deputies Identified

File

VCSO: Steven Howard Goldstein, 48, of Evansville was shot to death after firing at deputies

Authorities have released the identity of the man shot to death bay Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies this week. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The county coroner’s office identified the deceased as 48-year-old Steven Howard Goldstein of Evansville.

Goldstein was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon at 7303 N. St. Joe Road as officers attempted to serve a warrant.

He was wanted after authorities received a tip about a video in which Goldstein fires a gun at a woman with a child present.

Sheriff Noah Robinson says during the standoff on Wednesday, deputies repeatedly called for Goldstein to surrender.

Robinson said Goldstein fired “several shots” from inside the home.

Deputies eventually deployed an armored vehicle and the sheriff says Goldstein fired a shot directly at deputies in and around the vehicle.

Robinson said the deputy in the vehicle gave multiple commands for Goldstein to drop his weapon before the deputy fired, hitting Goldstein.

Deputies took Goldstein from the home and attempted life-saving measures but he died at the scene.
