The Peephole Bar and Grill after a car crashed into it Thursday afternoon

No injuries were reported; the bar is closed "until further notice"

A car has crashed into a popular bar in Downtown Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The car crashed into the Peephole at Main and 2nd streets Thursday afternoon.

Evansville Fire Department District Chief Jay Paul told WNIN’s John Gibson the driver failed to make a left turn from 2nd onto Main:

"Attempted to make a turn and made the turn a little wide and went into the bar. Was anybody hurt? No one was transported to the hospital that I'm aware of. There was one person in the bar but I don't believe they were injured. The driver, was he or she injured? He was not injured."

A flatbed truck attempts to pull the car from the bar.

The bar had not opened for the day so there were no customers inside.

Chief Paul said he didn’t think the damage was enough to destroy the building:

"Luckily, it hit the front of the building in a manner that it didn't structurally damage the building but they obviously had a lot of cosmetic damage."

On its Facebook page, the Peephole said it would be closed until further notice.

There was no word on whether any charges would be filed against the driver.
