John H. Elpers, 85, was hit by a car at the store on Diamond Avenue

Authorities have released the name of the man who died after being hit by a car on a Dollar General parking lot. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office says 85-year-old John H. Elpers of Evansville died in the incident outside the store in the 600 block of Diamond Avenue on Thursday.

Evansville Police Sgt. Anna Gray says Elpers fell down on the parking lot as a female driver backed out of a parking spot, stopped, and then pulled forward.

The driver told police she did not see Elpers on the ground and ran over him.

The EPD says life-saving measures were attempted but Elpers was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver cooperated with the investigation and was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw, which is required after a fatal accident.

The driver was released and no criminal charges were filed.
