Fire Damages Evansville Apartment Building

Steve Burger

At least 2 people were displaced in blaze at Fairmont Apartments

Officials say a fire that damaged an Evansville apartment building was mostly likely accidental. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Evansville firefighters were dispatched to 4952 Tippecanoe Dr. in Fairmont Apartments Monday afternoon, and first responders found smoke coming from a rear window.

EFD Division Chief Mike Larson says firefighters entered the apartment, found no one inside, and quickly extinguished flames in a bedroom.

Larson says there was heavy fire damage in the bedroom and heavy smoke damage throughout the apartment.

He said three other adjacent apartments had slight smoke damage.

The fire is under investigation but investigators believe it will be ruled as accidental and electrical in nature.

The American Red Cross was called to assist affected occupants.

No injuries were reported from the fire, but one firefighter who was feeling ill before the blaze was treated at a hospital.
