EPD: 3 International Thieves Arrested

File

Police say the suspects are from Chile and are part of a theft ring

Evansville Police have arrested three people who they say are part of an international theft ring. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

The EPD says an elderly woman shopping at an East Side store Thursday afternoon noticed her pocketbook missing from her purse.

Sgt. Nick Winsett says little did she know that an international theft ring passing through Evansville had just stolen it.

Winsett says an EPD. Financial Crimes Detective was patrolling the area after reports of people covering their faces with masks and pickpocketing unsuspecting people.

The EPD says the detective noticed three such suspects exiting Sam’s Club on E. Virginia St.

Police say he saw them commit a traffic violation and stopped the vehicle and found hundreds of credit cards, purses, and a large amount of cash – as well as the elderly woman’s pocketbook.

The EPD says other items inside the vehicle were linked to crimes in Marion, IL. and Nashville, TN.

The three people arrested were from Chile (CHILL-ay). They face charges of Theft, Forgery, Fraud, and Conspiracy.
