Evansville firefighters battled a stubborn blaze at a North Side storage facility on Monday. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
Crews were dispatched to the Store and Lock at 3518 Kratzville Road shortly before 6 a.m.
The first unit on the scene reported a “working fire” and asked the next engine to hook-up to a hydrant.
Eventually, two extra units were dispatched to help battle the flames.
Central Dispatch said the person who called 9-1-1 was concerned about propane tanks inside the single-story facility.
Shortly after crews arrived, the chief on the scene called for a defensive attack – meaning all firefighters get out of the building and put out the flames from the outside.
It took firefighters more than 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
It forced authorities to shut down Kratzville Road between Allens Lane and Buena Vista for several hours.
There was no word of any injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
