Man Accused of Hurting 2 Officers During Arrest

EPD

EPD: Suspect used an officer's Taser

Two Evansville police officers are injured and a man is in jail after scuffling during an arrest. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

EPD Sgt. Anna Gray says an officer stopped a man on a bicycle for running a stop sign at 4th Avenue and Florida St. Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the officer found methamphetamine on the man, later identified as Robert Medlock.

Gray says the officer attempted to handcuff Medlock but he tried to run away.

The officer deployed his Taser but said it didn’t stop Medlock and the two went to the ground fighting with the suspect kicking the officer in the face.

Gray says the officer and the suspect began struggling over the Taser and Medlock managed to stun the officer in his right ear, numbing the officer’s right arm.

Police say Medlock managed to get into a nearby garage with three people inside.

They say he armed himself with an ax and blocked the garage door.

Gray says officers eventually got Medlock out of the garage and into handcuffs.

Medlock was then accused of kicking another officer in his shin and injuring that officer’s hand while being placed in a transport vehicle.

The first officer was treated and released from a local hospital.

Medlock faces numerous charges including Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Law Enforcement, and a Parole Violation.
