Illinois State Police are investigating the death of an Evansville man who died in police custody. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
State Police say a trooper stopped stop a vehicle with a headlight out on a county road in Wayne County last week.
Police say 59-year-old Harry Weccele of Evansville was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license and possession of methamphetamine.
He was also wanted on a warrant.
Police said upon arrival at the Wayne County jail, Weccele complained of shoulder pain.
An ambulance was called and took him to an area hospital where he later died.
Illinois State Police say an investigation continues.
