Police say a product that’s been sold at local gas stations, convenience stores, and smoke shops is illegal. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
Tianeptine is commonly found in brand names such as Za Za and Pegasus.
Police says retailers have been selling the products, not knowing they were declared a Schedule One controlled substance in Indiana back in March.
The Evansville-Vanderburgh Joint Drug Task Force says it recently canvassed the county and informed business owners that the products are illegal and must be removed from shelves.
Authorities say a follow-up detail has been planned in the coming months to ensure businesses remain in compliance with the law.
Businesses that sell any products that contain Tianeptine in Indiana will be subject to criminal prosecution.
The drug is an antidepressant and one of the first depression treatments.
It’s NOT approved by the Federal Drug Administration.
