Evansville Boosts Parks Maintenance

File

New team hired, leaders assessing all parks

Evansville hopes to improve city parks with the hiring of another maintenance team. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Mayor Winnecke and the City Council agreed to add a new Parks Department maintenance team to the 2023 budget.

The department’s in-progress five-year Master Plan identified an immediate need for more maintenance staff.

The new team will include three mowing positions and a truck driver.

The city also hired James Mosley of Envirokinetics Inc. to lead a more robust effort to seek input from low income populations and communities of color that use neighborhood parks and recreation services.

Interim Parks Director Steve Schaefer says the department’s leadership team and Mayor Winnecke’s staff are in the process of visiting and assessing all the city’s parks.
