An annual Right to Life banquet is set for Thursday night in Evansville, just two months after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade. WNIN’s John Gibson has a preview:
Right to Life of Southwest Indiana’s sold-out event at the Old National Events Plaza will feature former Vice President Mike Pence and keynote speaker Abby Johnson.
Pence is also a former Indiana governor and a likely presidential candidate in 2024.
Johnson is a former Planned Parenthood director turned anti-abortion advocate and founder of the group And Then There Were None.
The banquet is the organization’s primary fundraising event.
In a release from the group, Pence noted that Roe vs. Wade has been “consigned to the ash heap of history” and a new arena in the cause of life has emerged.
Pence and other attendees can expect a strong contingent of reproductive rights protesters outside the event.
The overturning of Roe has sparked widespread protests and become a major election issue.
Evansville Police say they’ve closed 9th Street between Locust and Walnut, as well as the sidewalk, until midnight Thursday.
