Nobody was home when Evansville firefighters responded to 1420 Florence

An apartment fire has displaced four people in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Firefighters were dispatched to 1410 Florence St. shortly after 2:00 Sunday afternoon after a passerby reported a possible fire.

When crews arrived, they reported smoke and fire visible from a townhouse apartment.

EFD Division Chief Mike Larson says the blaze originated in the ground floor living room and firefighters quickly extinguished it.

He says flames extended up the stairway to the second floor but was contained to the apartment where the fire started.

Nobody was at home at the time of the fire and the American Red Cross was called to assist the four occupants.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
