Bull Riding Raises Money for Kids' Shoes

John Gibson

Proceeds from event are going to the Cops Connecting with Kids Program

Proceeds from a recent bull riding event will put shoes on the feet of more than 3,500 needy kids in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

The Professional Bull Riding Association presented an $81,000 check to the local Cops Connecting with Kids Program.

The association’s Lance Yearby addressed reporters in front of the Civic Center:

"We we're able to raise over $81,000. That'll provide over 3,600 pairs of shoes for inner city kids here in Evansville, Indiana"

Yearby hopes it’s just a start:

"There's 15,000 kids here in Evansville that qualify for this program. And we hope to eventually next year and the year after next to hit that number, 15,000."

Former Evansville Police spokesman Jason Cullum is the president of Cops Connecting with Kids:

"There are kids in our community that maybe never had a new a pair of shoes. They may be handed down from an older sibling or maybe a community donation. We're very fortunate that we have programs in Evansville that provide these kind of things for kids. But to be able to do it at this level, with the community partnership with PBR and Shoe Sensation is a huge deal for us."

The group is best known for arranging trips to Disney World for needy kids.
