Suspect Dead After Manhunt in Warrick County

File

Michael White of Chandler was accused of shooting at officers during a pursuit

The search for a man who allegedly fired a gun at police in Warrick County has ended with the suspect dead. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

Indiana State Police say the situation began Tuesday evening, when deputies pursued a vehicle driven by man who had active warrants for his arrest.

During the pursuit, deputies said the suspect fired rounds from a handgun, got out of the vehicle, and fled on foot through a wooded area.

Since then, officers from multiple agencies and the ISP’s Aviation Section had been looking for the suspect.

Police say they found him near Lynnville Thursday night and an exchange of gunfire ensued before the suspect retreated into a barn.

The ISP says efforts to communicate with him were unsuccessful and a SWAT team found him unresponsive.

Officers secured the scene and provided medical care until EMS arrived, but the suspect succumbed to his injuries, and the Warrick County Coroner's Office was called to the scene.

The deceased was identified as 64-year-old Michael White of Chandler.

No officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.

State Police are investigating White’s death.
