Jones Sentenced to 60 Years for Burk's Death

File

The suspect was found guilty but mentally ill

A judge has sentenced a man to 60 years in prison for a 2020 murder in Downtown Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office says 51-year-old Stephen Brian Nail was sentenced Thursday in the robbery and death of Burk Jones.

Jones was found dead in an alleyway in the 300 block of Main Street in August of 2020.

After canvassing the area for surveillance video, police quickly established Nail as the suspect.

Last month, an Evansville jury found Nail GUILTY BUT MENTALLY ILL.

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Kevin McDaniel praised the EPD for the quick action and for preserving key evidence to help secure the conviction.
