Authorities Identify Deceased Baby; Autopsy Planned, Parents Charged

EPD

The infant's mother found the two-week-old unresponsive

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday after an infant was found dead in an Evansville home. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office identified the child as two-week-old Wade Wilson.

The baby’s mother called 9-1-1 when he was found not breathing yesterday (Wed) morning at a home on W. Oregon St., near North Main.

First responders tried to resuscitate Wade but were unsuccessful.

The EPD said officers found what appeared to be narcotics and paraphernalia in plain view inside the home.

Police say detectives interviewed the parents and learned that the mother, Taylor Smith, went to sleep with the child and woke up later with the child underneath her body.

The EPD said the father, Timothy Wilson, was also at the home even though he had been ordered by the Department of Child Services to not be around the baby due to a prior investigation.

Police said the home had no running water and conditions were “not favorable.”

Officers arrested Smith and Wilson on charges of Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death.
