Residents escaped a Memorial Day house fire in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Firefighters were dispatched to 726 E. Florida St. at about 4:30 Monday afternoon and found smoke coming from the attic.

Division Chief Mike Larson said crews entered the home and encountered “high heat and heavy smoke.”

He said crews quickly found the fire in the kitchen and extinguished it in about 10 minutes.

Larson said crews contained the damage to the kitchen area near the refrigerator.

The occupants escaped unharmed and the Red Cross was called to assist them.

The fire was ruled accidental.
