Hit and Run Victim Identified

File

Police are still looking for another person who was with the suspect

Authorities have released the identity of the woman who died after being run over at an Evansville gas station. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office says 33-year-old Megan Schaefer died after the hit-and-run at the Conoco station at Weinbach and Franklin Sunday night.

Deputy Coroner David Anson said preliminary autopsy results indicate Schaefer died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Evansville Police arrested 16-year-old Mateo Rodriguez for the death.

He’s accused of hitting and running over Schaefer as he was stealing a car at the gas station.

Rodriguez has been charged as an adult with murder and other charges.

Police were still looking for another male who was with Rodriguez at the time of the crime.

Anyone with more information is asked to call the EPD at 812-436-7979.
