Trooper stopped the driver in Gibson County

Indiana State Police say they took a dangerous driver off the road. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The ISP says a trooper on U.S. 41 near Fort Branch clocked a car traveling southbound Sunday afternoon at 109 miles-an-hour.

Police say the trooper activated his emergency lights and siren, but the driver continued south for nearly three miles before finally stopping near Gibson County Road 1200-South.

During the traffic stop, the trooper said he detected a strong odor of alcohol and observed signs of impairment.

Police said further investigation revealed the driver had a blood-alcohol count of .15% -- nearly twice the legal limit.

The driver was identified as 25-year-old Edgar Martinez of Birmingham, Alabama.

Police arrested Martinez on preliminary charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, and Operating a Vehicle without ever receiving a Driver’s License.

He was taken to the Gibson County Jail, where he was being held on bond.
