Solar Energy Project Planned for Pike County

Officials in Pike County have approved a $128 million solar energy project. 

Solar advocates have come out against the Indiana utility Vectren’s plan to pay customers with solar panels less for the energy they generate for the grid. Republican state lawmaker and solar customer Rep. Ron Bacon (R-Chandler) is one of those critics.

For the past few months, Indiana University students have been helping 14 cities in the state to do greenhouse gas inventories. The idea is for cities to look at which sectors emit the most gases that contribute to climate change and try to make them greener. 

The Indiana General Assembly will explore a tweak to a controversial energy bill passed last session that, in part, reduces incentives for smaller solar projects. The fix would help more schools finance solar projects. More schools are installing solar systems to reduce their electric bill and put money back in the classroom.
