Senate lawmakers sent legislation to the governor Tuesday that largely bans the abortion procedures known as D&Es.

A bill allowing pharmacists to refuse to dispense abortion-inducing drugs is one step away from becoming law.

Senate lawmakers sent the measure to the governor amid heated debate.

Some doctors see access to birth control as a tool in the fight to decrease maternal and infant mortality. Indiana has one of the nation’s worst rates of new mothers and infants dying, and those rates are even worse for black women.

But a history of abuse has led to distrust of health care professionals in communities of color. 

Both Sides Of Abortion Debate Organize In Indianapolis

People on both sides of the abortion issue made their voices heard at the Indiana Statehouse today and young Hoosiers were well represented.

Hundreds of pro-life supporters from around the state attended a march and rally event in Indianapolis Monday. While a national rally has been held in Washington for many years, this was the first time the event was organized in Indiana.
