Where will IU students park?

Apr 15, 2014

An inevitable question about the planned IU medical and research complex in Downtown Evansville is where will 2,000 students and faculty park?

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says the city will tweak the convention hotel plan to add more parking for the nearby med school.

Some students may not need a parking spot. They told IU trustees they wanted a site that’s “walkable.”

The med school project carries a price tag of nearly $70 million, and officials will be looking for funding from both the city and the state.

He will meet with the Concerned Clergy of Evansville and Police Chief Billy Bolin again in the coming days to identify ways the Police can improve their interactions.

"We have to stop 'picking sides,'" Winnecke said.  "We need to take a deep breath as a community, step back, and have some civil dialogue."

The Mayor said he has  “100 percent confidence” in Bolin and this effort.
