Republican Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke breezed to a third term, while Democrats took seven of the nine city council seats in Tuesday’s city election.

Winnecke won more than 80 percent of the vote, easily defeating Independent Steven Ary and Libertarian Bart Gadau.

Democrats did not nominate a candidate for mayor, but they won five of the six city council ward seats and two of the three at-large seats.

Two incumbents outsted in primary

Two incumbents on the Evansville City Council have been defeated in the Democratic Party Primary.

Council members Al Lindsey and Conor O’Daniel were defeated by political newcomers Jim Brinkmeyer and Alex Burton.

Burton, a management trainee at Old National Bank, was the top vote-getter in the Democratic At-Large race, with incumbents Jonathan Weaver and Dan Adams picking up enough votes to advance to the November General Election.
