Allegiant adding flights to Destin, FL

Evansville Regional Airport says new flights to a popular beach will eliminate a 10-hour drive. 

Allegiant Air will add two weekly flights between Evansville and Destin, Florida, starting June 8th.

During a news conference at the airport, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke couldn’t resist mentioning the weather…

Body scanner installed at EVV

The next time you travel through Evansville Regional Airport, you may have to walk through a body scanner. 

The Transportation Security Administration says it’s installed Advanced Imaging Technology – or AIT – at the Evansville airport.

The technology -- also known as body scanners -- is used to screen passengers for metallic and non-metallic items including weapons, explosives, and other objects that can be concealed in layers of clothing.

American to upgrade Dallas flights at EVV

You may notice larger aircraft flying in and out of Evansville Regional Airport, starting this spring.

Airport officials say American Airlines is upgrading its weekday flights and one of its weekend flights to and from Dallas.

A news release from Evansville Regional says the flights will be on CRJ-900 planes, which seat 76 passengers, including 9 in first class.

The flights are currently run on smaller, 50-seat jets.

IEDC approves funding for EVV airport renovation

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation is pitching-in to help renovate the Evansville airport. 

The IEDC is contributing $5 million in Regional Cities money for the $12.3 million project.

The renovation was among projects regional officials presented to the state. Southwest Indiana and two other regions were each awarded $42 million.

A news release from the IEDC says the 30-year-old airport terminal needs infrastructure updates to remain “functional and competitive.”

EVV to offer flights to Orlando

Evansville Regional Airport will soon join Owensboro in offering direct flights to Orlando, Florida.  

Allegiant Air says it will offer two direct flights a week between Evansville and Orlando/Sanford International Airport, starting June 2nd.

The airline says prices for one-way flights start as low as $59.

The Orlando flights will be on MD-80 jet aircraft, which seat 166 people. Most flights at the Evansville airport are 50-seat jets.
