Hundreds gathered on the UE campus to celebrate a historic basketball victory.

Cheers erupted for the UE men’s basketball team and coach Walter McCarty as they walked into a midday rally at the Ridgeway Center.

Students and other supporters celebrated the Aces huge upset win over the top-ranked Kentucky Wildcats at Rupp Arena less than 24 hour earlier.

Coach McCarty urged the crowd to support their team…

“We're rewriting the scipt of Aces basketball and we're all a part of it right now. And what better way to start this year off and to start off with our new logo but by really putting a team out there that can really compete with anybody in the country. And we just knocked off the No. 1 team in the country.”

The Aces’ victory pushed “Evansville” to the top of the social media platform Twitter Tuesday night.

It was the first time a No. 1 Kentucky team lost at home to an unranked non-conference opponent.

UE gets back to work Thursday evening, when the Aces go for their 3rd straight win of the young season against IU Kokomo at the Ford Center.

Tip-off is at 6 p.m. Thursday.
