Workforce Housing Program Launches With Four Employers

(Justin Hicks/IPB News)

The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority announced Thursday it’s selected four Indiana employers for the Anchor Employer Workforce Housing Program. The businesses will each receive $1 million to address a shortage of housing for workers.

French Lick Resort, Impact CNC, Indiana University Health and Zimmer Biomet will match or exceed the funding provided to solve issues around housing workers in their communities.

Jacob Sipe is the executive director of the IHCDA. He says this is the first year of the program and, to his knowledge, the first example nationally of a state finance agency working with employers.

“There’s going to be a variety of different strategies in which we invest,” he says. “So it may not just be new construction. It might be thinking about the infrastructure. It might be thinking about how do we attract builders to their communities. “

The employers will attend a workshop with IHCDA in November to develop their plans further.
