Women's Suffrage Event in Owensboro

owensboro-ky.aauw.net

Next Thursday in Owensboro, women and their supporters are invited to mark the 101st anniversary of women’s suffrage in the U.S.

The event on August 26th will mark the anniversary of women getting the right to vote. They will also rededicate a memorial to Daviess County’s first female representative to the Kentucky General Assembly, Louise Gasser Kirtley.

Organizer Aloma Dew says they will recognize local female office holders and encourag others to get involved in local government.

“What we’re saying to people is, you got this super power- the vote- and we need to use it to make it effective, to let our voices be heard, to recognize women who have been able to achieve elective office and to help other women.”

The event will start with a parade at 4:30 from the Owensboro Museum of Science and History to the courthouse square in downtown Owensboro.
