Winnecke: Solution Coming for U.S. 41 and Washington

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says an announcement about the intersection of Highway 41 and Washington Avenue is coming “in the near future.”

Parents and school officials have long sought a pedestrian overpass at the busy intersection near Bosse High School.

Now, Mayor Winnekce says his office and the Indiana Department of Transportation are “negotiating a solution” to make the intersection safer.

In a tweet, the mayor said improving traffic safety and pedestrian access is of “utmost importance.”

Earlier this year, more than 900 people signed a petition asking INDOT to erect an overpass for students.

Hundreds of kids from Bosse and Washington Middle School cross the highway twice each school day.
