Weaver chosen to lead EMA

The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Emergency Management Agency now has a full-time director.

The Evansville Courier and Press says Fire Department District Chief Cliff Weaver has been named to the post after serving as interim co-director with Police Captain Andy Chandler. Weaver and Chandler have led the agency since Sherman Greer was forced to step down.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke asked Greer to resign after an internal showed Greer had paid a lot of overtime to an office employee and that the EMA staff inappopriately shared information about a competitive bidding process for radio equipment.

The EMA is a joint city-county government department, but its staff are considered city employees. It’s responsible for the mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery from major emergencies and disasters in Evansville and Vanderburgh County.
