Vanderburgh COVID Vaccinations Top 96,000; Boosters Rising

File

The number of Vanderburgh County residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19 has topped 96,000.

The Indiana Department of Health recorded 165 more local vaccinations, raising the total to 96,158.

The county’s official population is just above 182,000.

The state also reported nearly 700 more booster shots in Vanderburgh County on the Wednesday dashboard.

More than 27,000 local residents have received boosters since they became available.

Health officials are now urging every eligible vaccinated person to get a booster shot, as the scientific community works to determine how effective the existing vaccines are against the new omacron variant.

Persons who received the Pfizer or Moderna shots should wait six months before receiving a booster.

Those who got the Johnson and Johnson vaccine are eligible after two months.
