Vanderburgh Co. Council Approves Half Million Dollars For Jail Expansion Design

A proposed expansion to the Vanderburgh County jail is moving forward after Wednesday’s county council meeting.

The council voted to give American Structurepoint, Inc. $500,000 at the request of county commissioners. The money will come out of a fund reserved for public safety and will go toward initial design studies and cost estimates.

Commissioners went to the county council back in August with a similar request. That time for a million dollars. Council denied them the money with members worried they didn’t have enough information about the project.

Also at the Wednesday meeting, councilmembers signed a memorandum of understanding outlining the dispersal of the funds.

The agreement already received a thumbs-up from the building authority, and commissioners approved it at their meeting Tuesday.
