With new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control released Tuesday, masks will be again be mandatory indoors at the University of Southern Indiana.

Starting Wednesday, students and staff at USI will be required to wear masks indoors on campus, regardless of vaccination status, and maintain at least three feet of separation until further notice.

In a release, university officials say the decision was made following the latest recommendations from the CDC.

The guidance is for areas of the country with high coronavirus transmission numbers. Vanderburgh County and most surrounding counties throughout the Tri-state area are now in the high transmission status level according to the CDC data tracker.

USI officials say they have consistently followed CDC guidelines throughout the pandemic. They encouraged all students and staff to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
