The University of Evansville (UE) unveiled a new event Thursday morning that will allow community members to pitch ideas to investors on local television.
Anyone with a project idea to improve the area’s quality of life is allowed to compete in UE’s first Community Changemaker Challenge. The program is a partnership between the university, WNIN, and several local organizations.
"It is going to be around the theme of 'Making Evansville More Fun and Exciting,'" said Jill Griffin, executive director of the UE's Center for Innovation and Change. "We welcome ideas from anyone of any age. We’re saying from K to 99 or even broader."
Teams face several rounds of competition before they have a shot at the television screen. The final four teams will come to the WNIN studios to pitch their ideas to investors in an event similar to the television series Shark Tank.
The final teams will each receive $1,000 in addition to a TV appearance. They’ll also have a chance to compete for up to $10,000.
A kickoff event will take place Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Evansville African American Museum. The final round will be taped at WNIN on Friday, June 7.
