Two incumbents outsted in primary

Two incumbents on the Evansville City Council have been defeated in the Democratic Party Primary.

Council members Al Lindsey and Conor O’Daniel were defeated by political newcomers Jim Brinkmeyer and Alex Burton.

Burton, a management trainee at Old National Bank, was the top vote-getter in the Democratic At-Large race, with incumbents Jonathan Weaver and Dan Adams picking up enough votes to advance to the November General Election.

O’Daniel was the odd man out, trailing the third-place Adams by six votes. He tells the Courier and Press “it’s politics.” He promises to do “as good a job” as he can in his final year on the council.

Brinkmeyer, a teacher and coach at Reitz High School, defeated Lindsey.

In the Evansville City Clerk race, Democratic incumbent Linda Windhorst advanced by beating challenger Misty Hart. On the Republican side, J.D. Strouth topped Jan Stricklin, and will face Windhorst in November.

Incumbent Republican Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and Democratic challenger Gail Riecken faced no primary challengers.

Local election officials say voter turnout was very light – less than 7 percent.
