Two more Republicans have filed for seats on the Evansville City Council.

Alex Schmitt signed on the dotted line at the Vanderburgh County Election Office for an at-large seat on the city council.

The 35-year-old attorney and former county commission candidate suggested his time has come…

"I think it's time for a younger generation of civic leaders to come into those roles, people that understand how the city works and what the community needs."

Shortly after Schmitt filed for the May primary, Natalie Rascher signed up as a candidate for the Ward 2 seat currently held by Democrat Missy Mosby.

Rascher said she wants some “diversity of thought” on the council…

"I'm a working mom, I've got a lot on my plate, and I want to take those things that I do and apply them to to city council, because I think it's time we had a voice like mine."

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke joined dozens of Schmitt and Rascher supporters at the election office.

The deadline to file for the primary is February 8th.
