Road bill provides Regional Cities money

A $1 billion road funding bill headed to Governor Pence’s desk will also provide all the money promised to the state’s three Regional Cities winners.

House Bill 1001 earmarks $126 million for the three winners, including Southwest Indiana.

Vanderburgh , Warrick, Posey, and Gibson counties will receive the full $42 million to boost a number of projects, including a renovation of Evansville Regional Airport.

That’s where Governor Pence visited just before Christmas to spread the word that the Indiana Economic Development Corporation had decided to award three regions instead of two.

Pence told WNIN that he was confident the money would come through.

A better-than-expected tax amnesty program will cover the $126 million.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says he’s “very pleased” the legislature approved the full funding.
