Ribbon cutting opens Hi-Rail path

City of Evansville

You may notice more walkers, runners, and bike riders along Highway 41 in Evansville.

City leaders have officially opened the Hi-Rail Greenway.

The 2.5-mile trail was installed along a former railroad bed next to 41 between Riverside and Walnut.

The city says the Greenway features a 10-foot wide asphalt trail, nine rest areas, benches, bike racks, more than 200 new tree plantings, landscaping, fencing, and solar lights.

The Hi-Rail is a $2.2 million federally funded matching grant project with the federal government paying 80 percent of the cost.

The local share of the project’s costs was paid for with grants obtained by the city of Evansville.
