Police: suspicious device was a hoax

Police are calling a suspicious device found at an Evansville gas station Monday a “hoax.”

Just before 6 a.m. officers were dispatched to the Sunoco station on Kratzville Road near Allens lane.

A news release from the EPD says when officers arrived on scene, they found the device, locked down the area, and contacted the department’s Hazardous Device Unit.

Officers restricted traffic on Kratzville Road to keep drivers away from the gas station.

The Hazardous Device Unit deployed a robot to investigate the device and officers determined it was not an explosive, but a hoax.

No one was injured and police continue to investigate the incident.
