Person of Interest Named in Doerr Killing

EPD

On the anniversary of the shooting death of Evansville firefighter Robert Doerr, police say they have a person of interest and they’re asking for help in solving the case.

At a news conference Wednesday, Evansville Police Department investigator Blake Keen called the killing of the 51-year-old Doerr an execution and gave an update on the investigation:

“The person of interest has been identified as 41-year-old Larry Ali Richmond, Senior. Richmond, Senior had a relationship with the Doerr family at the time Robert was executed. Richmond, Senior is currently in federal custody on an unrelated charge.”

A report filed by WEHT last summer indicates that Larry Ali Richmond, Senior is a convicted murderer who is facing federal firearms charges. Online court records indicate an Indiana firearms posession charge against him was dismissed in June of 2019 and another case with similar charges was filed in September.

Keen says they need more information to solve the murder. They’re asking anyone who even thinks they may know something about the Doerrs or Larry Ali Richmond, Senior is asking to contact Evansville Police at 812-436-7979.

In the year since Doerr was shot in the driveway of his Evansville home, numerous local, state and federal agencies have been trying to solve the case, including some as diverse as the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility, Urban Forestry and the Archaeology Department at the University of Southern Indiana.
