The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the Ohio River.

The warning is in effect along the Ohio from Owensboro to Cairo, Illinois.

The weather service says the river was at 42.8 feet in Evansville Sunday night, nearly a foot above the flood stage of 42.

Forecasters say river levels will generally level off or continue a very slow rise this week.

The minor to moderate flooding has closed a number of low-lying roads in the Evansville area, including Waterworks Road between Highway 41 and LST Drive, Weinbach south of the levee, and several roads in the Union Township bottoms.

Authorities warn to never drive into standing water, because it may deeper than it looks.

They also say never allow children to play in or near flood waters.

Forecasters say the river won’t begin falling in earnest until next weekend.
