A number of Tri-State roads remain closed as the Ohio River continues to rise slowly.
Heavy rain on Saturday flooded dozens of roadways and caused the city of Evansville’s sewer system to reach its capacity.
The rain ended by Sunday morning but the Ohio River is still rising, and forecasters predict it won’t crest until Wednesday.
As of noon Monday, the Ohio at Evansville was just below 46 feet – nearly 4 feet above flood stage.
It’s now expected to crest Wednesday evening just short of 47 feet – its highest level since 1997.
The all-time recorded high at Evansville was 53.8 feet in 1937.
Among roads closed by Saturday’s flash flooding was State Road 65 in Gibson County between Owensville and State Road 64.
65 remains closed in that area due to damage caused by the flood water.
U.S. 60 has reopened near the Henderson-Union county line after being shut down by high water.
The river has spilled over Smothers Park and part of Veterans Boulevard in Owensboro.
Authorities urge drivers across the Tri-State to obey road closure signs.
The National Weather Service recorded 5-to-7 inches of rain in the region between Tuesday and Sunday.
Evansville topped 6 inches during the period.
More rain is expected in the region Tuesday night through Thursday.
The weather service says 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible.
