Mother Nature turns up the heat

Festival-goers are urged to stay hydrated this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Friday and Saturday, just as Shriners Fest and ROMP shift into high gear.

Thousands are expected on Evansville’s riverfront for Shriners Fest. Thousands more are attending the ROMP festival in Yellow Creek Park at Owensboro.

Forecasters say high temperatures in the mid-90s are expected both Friday and Saturday, with peak heat index readings of 105 to 110.

They say the combination of heat and humidity will increase the risk of heat-related stress and illness.

The weather service urges residents to drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, take advantage of air conditioning as much as possible, stay out of the sun as much as you can, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
