The facility will house numerous health professions programs for the University of Evansville, the University of Southern Indiana and the Indiana University Medical School Evansville campus. The programs will work side by side to create a transformational approach to health care and medical education.

Mayor brings treats to State of the City address

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke announced the first convention has been booked in the downtown hotel, just a day after the official groundbreaking.

Winnecke said the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns will hold their annual convention at the 253-room Hilton DoubleTree in fall of 2015, shortly after it opens.

He broke the news during his State of the City address at the Rotary Club meeting, and he delivered it with a sweet culinary treat for those in attendance: Hilton DoubleTree’s signature chocolate chip cookies.

Winnecke also highlighted developments in business, jobs and culture during his address.

He said the unemployment rate is the lowest it has been in the last five years, thanks to retention and expansion of companies, like Berry Plastics.
