A Newburgh man is injured after allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident.
Warrick County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Paul Kruse says officers responded to a hit and run crash at Highway 66 and Sharon Road at about 2:20 Sunday afternoon.
In a release, Cruse said the driver from that crash fled the scene at a high rate of speed and was followed by witnesses.
Warrick Dispatch received numerous 911 calls reporting that the driver of an orange truck was driving recklessly, in the median, and possibly into oncoming traffic.
The truck continued eastbound in the median of SR 66, before hitting guardrails and entering a creek.
Newburgh Police and a Deputy Coroner were the first to arrive. They entered the water and render aid to the driver, identified as 45-year-old Gerald Wayne Fulkerson Jr. of Newburgh.
He was flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, with non-life threatening injuries.
The Warrick County Sheriff’s Office says Fulkerson was believed to be under the influence at the time of the crashes and toxicology results are pending.
