Man Accused of Armed Standoff

File

An Evansville man is in jail accused of barricading himself inside a home with a gun.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home on Nicole Drive Wednesday evening.

In a release, the sheriff’s office said deputies approached the home and saw 24-year-old Joseph Parker, standing in the doorway loading a firearm.

Deputies repositioned themselves and secured a perimeter.

In the process, they learned of another person inside the home that was being prevented from leaving.

The sheriff’s office says deputies were able to safely remove the person while the standoff continued.

Eventually, deputies say Parker came outside and attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly stopped.

The sheriff’s office said Parker was uncooperative and damaged a patrol car during the arrest.

Deputies took Parker to the Vanderburgh County Jail on preliminary charges of Criminal Confinement, Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, Pointing a Loaded Firearm, Criminal Mischief, and Resisting Law Enforcement.
