Local Vaccinations Top Infections as Delta Variant Spreads

File

Vaccinations outnumber infections in the latest COVID-19 report for Vanderburgh County.

The Indiana State Department of Health recorded 183 new full vaccinations in the county, while new infections climbed by 148.

The agency added 74 infections in Warrick County, 26 in Gibson County, and a dozen in Posey County on the Thursday dashboard, while the highly contagious delta variant continued to spread the virus.

No new COVID-related deaths were recorded in the Evansville area.

The number of hospitalized COVID patients in the 12-county region of southwest Indiana rose to 164. In late June, that number was as low as 14.

Across Indiana, the health department reported six new fatalities and more than 3,100 new infections.

Health officials continue to urge non-vaccinated residents to get the shots so they can protect themselves, their families, and others.
