Local Pet Food Company Recalls Dog and Cat Foods

Midwest Pet Food

An Evansville-based pet food company has voluntarily recalled dog and cat food after 28 dogs reportedly died.

Midwestern Pet Foods recalled some of its Sportmix High Energy products.

They include Sportmix Energy Plus in 50- and 44-pound bags, Sportmix Premium High Energy in 50- and 44-pound bags, and Sportmix Original Cat Food in 31- and 15-pound bags

The expiration date on the products is March 2 or March 3, 2022.

The U.S Food and Drug Administration said the foods contain potentially fatal levels of aflatoxin.

The FDA said on its website that it’s aware of at least 28 deaths and eight illnesses in dogs that ate the recalled products.

Midwestern Pet Foods operates at 9634 Heddon Road, off State Road 57.
