KY Road Closed After Bridge Collapses

A bridge has collapsed in western Kentucky.

Authorities have closed Kentucky State Road 260 just east of the I-69/Pennyrile Parkway interchange at Hanson.

It’s because the Old Otter Creek Bridge collapsed Friday morning.

Keith Todd of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said no vehicles were on the bridge when it dropped.

A new Otter Creek Bridge has been under construction at the site with one-lane traffic on the old span controlled by a temporary signal.

Todd said engineers hope to expedite completion of the new bridge and reopen the roadway in a few weeks.

Motorists are advised to detour via KY 281 – or Island Ford Road -- to connect to I-69 at Madisonville.
